Long Range Discrimination Radar

LRDR: Now Operational with the U.S. Space Force

The Long Range Discrimination Radar (LRDR) is officially operational and ready to defend the U.S. homeland. As the backbone of the Missile Defense Agency’s layered defense strategy, LRDR provides unmatched long-range precision to detect and track ballistic missile threats, ensuring the effectiveness of ground-based interceptors.

Built on advanced solid-state, gallium nitride (GaN) technology and an open-architecture platform, LRDR leverages decades of U.S. investment in radar and missile defense systems, including the Aegis Combat System, Space Fence, and Aegis Ashore. Its proven algorithms and scalable design keep pace with evolving threats while supporting both homeland defense and Space Force operations.

With LRDR now operational, the U.S. has a critical, forward-looking capability that strengthens national security and reinforces deterrence against modern missile threats.
